The cause of the crash is unknown but authorities said that there may be several survivors.
Chapecoense Real was en route to Medellin to play against Atletico-Nacional for the Copa-Sudamericana finals scheduled for Wednesday.

Electrical failure led to the crash
The authorities have said that the plane had declared an emergency at 03:00 (GMT) due to an electrical failure. Rescuers were immediately sent but an air force helicopter had to return due to low visibility.
Chapocoense defender one of the six survivors?
Jose Maria Cordova international airport issued a statement saying, "At the moment we know that the disaster happened in Cerro Gordo in the municipality of La Unión and that there were 72 passengers and nine crew aboard, including the football team Chapocoense Real. There are reported to be six survivors."
It has been reported that one of the survivors is Chapocoense defender Alan Ruschel.

Associacao Chapecoense de Futebol
The Chapecoense is a soccer club from the city of Chapeco in Santa Catarina state, founded in May 1973.
They were on their way to play the finals of Copa Sudamericana 2016, a Europa League like championship, featuring only South American nations.
About 22 members of the team were reported to be on the plane, along with officials and sports journalists.

Chapecoense awarded Copa Sudamericana title
Brazilian football team Chapecoense have been awarded the Copa Sudamericana title by the South American football confederation Conmebol.
Their opponents for the scheduled match, Atletico Nacional conceded the match and were given a fair play award; Chapecoense were given the 1st place prize of $2 million.
Chapecoense vice-president Ivan Tozzo and the three surviving team members hailed the decision as "justice".

Bolivia arrests LaMia airline chief
Bolivian authorities have arrested the owner of LaMia airlines, which crashed last week killing 71 people including Brazilian football team; Gustavo Vargas has been detained as part of the investigation into the crash.
Authorities said that the pilot and airline officials were aware that the plane was low on fuel while departing.
The pilot had complained of "total electrical failure" and "lack of fuel."

Chapecoense goalkeeper named Brazil's 'player of the year'
Chapecoense goalkeeper Marcos Danilo Padilha, who was one of the victims of the Colombian air crash last month was posthumously named Brazil's player of the year. He received a 48% vote from the fans.
Danilo's save in the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals match helped the Chapecoense team seal their place in the finals.
The award was collected by his mother, Ilaides Padilha.

Chapecoense play their first game since plane crash
19 players and staff from Chapecoense were killed in the crash. The team recruited 22 new players for the match.
Chapecoense drew 2-2 with Palmeiras.
The proceeds from the match will go to the victims' families and toward rebuilding the club.
