Saina Nehwal enters Macau Open quarter-finals

Indian representation at 2016 Macau Open Grand Prix

Saina Nehwal defeated Indonesian Dinar Dyah Ayustine in the second round of the 2016 Macau Open to reach the quarter-finals.

Losing the first set 17-21, Saina made a comeback in the next two sets and won 21-18, 21-12.

Saina had earlier beaten Hanna Ramadini in the first round. She will now face Zhang Yiman of China in the next round.

The Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix is an international badminton tournament held annually in Macau. First started in 2006, it was categorized as Grand Prix Gold event by the Badminton World Federation in 2007.

The 2016 edition of Macau Open Grand Prix Gold will start from 29 November 2016 at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion in Macau.

The week long tournament would see top-ranked players from around the world competing for a total prize money of $120,000.

Jeon Hyeok-jin of Korea had won men's singles title last year while PV Sindhu lifted the women's singles title.

Saina to lead Indian contingent at Macau

Ranked 10th in the world, Saina Nehwal would lead India's contingent at the 2016 Macau Open. She would participate in the women's single event.

Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy would team up together in the men's doubles event.

In men's singles, Sameer Verma, H S Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap and B Sai Praneeth would take charge for India.

Sindhu, Srikanth withdraw from the tournament

Three time Macau Open champion PV Sindhu withdrew from the 2016 edition of the tournament to prepare herself for Dubai Super Series Finals. Along with her, Kidambi Srikanth has also pulled out of the tournament.

Men's eventKashyap, Sameer - out of tournament

Parupalli Kashyap was handed a defeat in straight sets by Chinese Taipei's Lin Yu Hsien in the third round of the men's singles event, hence he is out of the tournament.

2016 Hong Kong Open finalist Sameer Verma lost to Muhammad Bayu Pangisthu of Indonesia in the second round. Sameer was defeated in straight sets 21-18 and 21-13.

Sai Praneeth reaches quarter-finals after defeating Vincent

B Sai Praneeth defeated fifth seeded Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong in the round three of the Macau Open. Praneeth won the match in straight sets 21-15, 21-17. He will now face Zhao Jun Peng of China in the quarter-final match.

Top seeded Saina Nehwal crashed out of the 2016 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold championships after a loss against Zhang Yiman of China.

World number 270 Zhang won in straight sets 21-12, 21-17.

With Saina out of the tournament, Sai Praneeth is the only Indian shuttler in the tournament. He will play his quarter-finals match later today.
