Australian openers added 56 runs for the first wicket, before Pakistan hit back.
With Usman Khawaja (62) falling, the Aussies were pegged back at 140/5.
From there on, Maxwell and Alex Carey (55) added 134 runs to help the Aussies get to 277.

Pakistan first team to script this unusual record
For the first time in ODI history, a team went on to lose a match chasing a target below 280, despite two centuries. This was Australia's seventh successive ODI win this year and this is massive ahead of the World Cup 2019 starting May 30.
Maxwell gets out in the 90s once again
Maxwell got out in the 90s for the fourth time in his ODI career.
He equalled some Aussie stars in this process including skipper Aaron Finch, Matthew Hayden and Allan Border.
Maxi also smashed his 18th career ODI fifty.
Finch needs two more to get past 4,000-run mark in ODIs (3,999).
He will become the 17th Australian to do so.
Ali becomes 15th debutant to hit ODI hundred
Abid Ali scored a century on his debut for Pakistan.
He became the 15th cricketer to achieve this feat in ODIs and also the third player from Pakistan.
Rizwan hit his second career ODI hundred and also the second of the series.
Nathan Coulter-Nile (3/53) needs two more scalps to reach 50 wickets (48).
Khawaja (671) now has the most ODI runs in 2019.
