Justin Langer outlines Australia's World Cup selection headache

Australia have found some much needed momentum in ODI cricket after two successive series wins against India and Pakistan.

They have also won eight ODIs in a row to stake claim as one of the favorites for the ICC World Cup 2019 set to start from May 30 onwards in England and Wales.

Coach Justin Langer has opened up on squad selection.

Australia had endured a difficult time and hadn't won a single ODI series for over a year.

But just when it mattered, the side led by Aaron Finch beat the likes of India and Pakistan.

Prior to that, many had felt that Australia's prospects in the World Cup were gloomy.

However, things have changed dramatically.

And Langer said that the selection has got clearer.

It becomes more clear as you watch games: Langer

"It's (the 15 for the World Cup) actually becoming more obvious by the day to me. The same with the other selectors. It becomes more clear as you watch games. That's why games are so important," said Langer.

Squad selection

Some players will be really disappointed, says Langer

Selecting the team won't be easy for Australia.

David Warner and Steve Smith are set to make a return post their 12-month ban.

Both are doing well in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Several other players are also fighting for limited spots.

"There's obviously going to be a couple of really disappointed players. But that's the tough business we're in," added the coach.

With Warner set to claim his stake as the opener, things have become difficult for selectors.

Usman Khawaja has been solid and is already the top run-scorer in 2019.

Finch has hit form and was a hit against Pakistan.

All three players are versatile though and one can expect some tweaks as far as the position is concerned.

Langer expects the same.

Versatility in the ranks will be crucial for Langer

"Aaron has had a really good partnership with David Warner as well. This partnership's blossoming between Aaron and Uzzie at the moment. David has shown he's a very versatile player, Uzzie's batted three a number of times, Finchy's batted in the middle order. Versatility's important."
