The Romanian sealed her maiden Wimbledon title as Serena's quest for a 24th Grand Slam continued.
Halep beat Serena in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) to seal the victory.
Here is the match report.
This was Halep's second victory in 11 career meetings against legend Serena.
Earlier, the sole victory came at the WTA Finals in 2014.
Serena last won a Slam in 2017 (Australian Open).
Halep now has two Slams in her bag out of four finals.
She had won 2018 French Open earlier.
This was Serena's third Slam final since 2018. Unfortunately, she has ended up losing on all three occasions. She lost last year's Wimbledon final against Angelique Kerber, before falling short in the controversial US Open finale against Naomi Osaka.
Halep started the first set with a bang after breaking Serena early on.
Williams looked a little rattled and Halep claimed the second game to love. The issues with Serena's serves continued and Halep broke her again to claim a 3-0 lead.
The intensity stayed with Halep throughout as she clinched the set 6-2.
She made just two unforced errors.
Serena held her serve to start the second set, but Halep kept calm.
Veteran Serena held her serve and took a 2-1 lead.
Halep forced Serena to make too many mistakes from there on and broke her as well to lead 3-2.
The Romanian kept up with her confident game and continued to march on.
It was difficult for Serena to stage a fight-back.
Former Australian legend Margaret Court set the record for most singles titles between 1960 and 1973 (24). Serena with 23 Slam titles, needs one more to equal Court. With three Slam final losses since last year, the wait continues.
