Simona Halep is the Wimbledon 2019 champion

Simona Halep got the better of veteran women's singles tennis ace Serena Williams to win the Wimbledon 2019 title.

The Romanian sealed her maiden Wimbledon title as Serena's quest for a 24th Grand Slam continued.

Halep beat Serena in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) to seal the victory.

This was Halep's second victory in 11 career meetings against legend Serena.

Earlier, the sole victory came at the WTA Finals in 2014.

Serena last won a Slam in 2017 (Australian Open).

The veteran tennis ace lost in her 11th finale appearance at the Wimbledon.

Halep now has two Slams in her bag out of four finals.

She had won 2018 French Open earlier.

Halep started the first set with a bang after breaking Serena early on.

Williams looked a little rattled and Halep claimed the second game to love. The issues with Serena's serves continued and Halep broke her again to claim a 3-0 lead.

The intensity stayed with Halep throughout as she clinched the set 6-2.

She made just two unforced errors.
