As a result, India now have an unassailable 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Notably, the first match got washed away.
Meanwhile, here are the records broken in this tie.
The plan worked as they posted a challenging total of 279/7, courtesy Kohli's splendid knock of 120.
Due to rain the total was revised to 270, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 4/31 was too much for the hosts to handle and were bundled for 210.
With this record, he went past his fellow countryman Brian Lara, who had played 299 ODIs.
However, it is to be noted that Gayle has played 297 ODIs for the Windies, while the remaining three ODIs are for the ICC World XI.
Kohli has a tendency to make and break a record in almost every game that he plays.
It was no different in this ODI as he became the highest run-scorer against the Windies in the format, having scored 2,032 runs to date.
He went past Javed Miandad's record of 1,930 runs in 64 innings, while Kohli achieved this feat in just 34 innings.

Kohli's fine record-breaking spree continued as he took the least number of innings to score 2,000 runs against a team.
Kohli has taken 34 innings to reach the landmark as he brought it up against the Windies.
Next to him is Rohit, who took 37 innings for the same against Australia, followed by Sachin Tendulkar, who took 40 innings against the Aussies.
There was no stopping Kohli on Sunday as he scripted another record, as a captain. Kohli now has the most number of his ODI centuries with him as the captain (20), going past his tally of 19 under MS Dhoni.
Gayle's record-breaking spree also continued as he has now become the leading run-scorer for the Windies in the ODIs. Gayle now has 10,353 runs in the format for the nation, as he went past Lara's previous record of 10,348.
Kohli has been at a different level, especially in the ODI format.
Post last night's knock, he is now the second-highest run-scorer from India in the ODI format.
He eclipsed the tally of former skipper Sourav Ganguly.
Kohli has now scored 11,406 runs in 229 innings at a prolific average of 59.71, while Ganguly scored 11,363 at 41.02.
