Indian women begin with an impressive victory against Sri Lanka

Indian women's cricket team began their World Cup qualifying campaign by comfortably beating the hosts, Sri Lanka.

Batting first, India posted a total of 259/4 and the Lankans were able to manage just 145/8, handing the women in blue an easy victory.

Collective batting performances from captain Mithali Raj, Deepti Sharma, and Devika Vaidya, guided India to the 114-run win.

The ten teams competing to qualify for the World Cup are divided into two groups of five each, in the initial round.

Each team will play the other four teams in their respective group once and at the end of first round, top three teams from each group advance to Super Six stage.

Indian team qualifies for 2017 ICC Women's World Cup

Indian women booked their place in the upcoming 2017 ICC Women's World Cup as they thrashed Bangladesh in the Super Six stage of the qualifying tournament.

After restricting Bangladesh to 155, skipper Mithali Raj and Mona Meshram hit half-centuries to guide the Indian team to a nine-run victory.

India are unbeaten in the qualifiers and will now face Pakistan in the next match.
