While he made his international debut in 2007, it was in 2009 he first shot to prominence, as he played a crucial role in Deccan Chargers' IPL title win.
Having finished as the third-highest run-getter, and the highest among Indians, for the side, his 362 runs at an average of 27.84 caught attention.
A triple century in Ranji Trophy
Following up on his good form from the IPL, Rohit continued with the same momentum in the domestic circuit as he scored a commendable triple century in the Ranji Trophy against Gujarat.
It was owing to this knock he was recalled to the Indian side for a tri-series in Bangladesh as a replacement for Sachin Tendulkar.
It was thereon, he became a familiar face.

In 2013, it was under his leadership Mumbai won their first-ever IPL title.
The moment drew high acclaim from experts and backed him for captaincy for the Indian team in the future.
To date, he is the most successful IPL captain, having won the title on four occasions.
Scoring the highest individual ODI score
Undoubtedly, the greatest moment in Rohit's career has to be the moment when he scored the highest knock in ODI history.
Playing against a bruised Sri Lankan side, he defied all odds to score a fascinating knock of 264.
Not just it was the highest ODI knock, he also became the first batsman to score a double hundred on multiple occasions.
