The Indian selectors are scheduled to meet on Thursday to announce the limited-overs squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Windies.
During the meet, openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan would be the point of discussion owing to their workload and ongoing form, respectively.
Furthermore, this could also be MSK Prasad's last selection meeting.
As per a PTI report, Rohit is likely to be rested in either one of the formats against Windies, keeping in mind his workload.
Besides, the selectors are also considering keeping him fresh for the upcoming tough tour of New Zealand in January.
Notably, Rohit has played around 60 competitive matches this year, which also includes the IPL.
Meanwhile, Rohit's opening partner Shikhar Dhawan has not been in the best of form, especially since his injury comeback during the ICC World Cup 2019.
While he could be dropped as well, Mayank Agarwal, who has been on a roll in Test cricket, could hop into the picture.
He has a good List A career, having scored 3,869 runs in 79 innings (Average: 50.9).
As for the wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant is once again likely to don the big gloves for the series, while Sanju Samson is likely to be kept on standby.
As for former skipper MS Dhoni, who began training last week, there is no official word on his return during the series.
However, if Pant fails to deliver, Dhoni's return, for now, could be imminent.
As far as spin bowling is considered, Washington Sundar, along with Krunal Pandya, has been conspicuous, owing to their inconsistent performances of late.
While Yuzvendra Chahal is set to retain his spot, unless Ravindra Jadeja is given a break, either of Sundar or Krunal is likely to be axed for the series.
As for the fast bowlers, Khaleel Ahmed would be the first one to be in the discussion.
The youngster got smacked for 81 runs in the T20Is against Bangladesh, while he had also conceded seven consecutive boundaries.
Nonetheless, Deepak Chahar is all set to retain his place, following a prolific show, especially in the final T20I against Bangladesh, claiming 6/7.
India are scheduled to play a three-match T20I and ODI series against Windies:
1st T20I: December 6 (Mumbai)
2nd T20I: December 8 (Thiruvananthapuram)
3rd T20I: December 11 (Hyderabad)
1st ODI: December 15 (Chennai)
2nd ODI: December 18 (Visakhapatnam)
3rd ODI: December 21 (Cuttack)
