India and West Indies are currently involved in a three-match T20I series with the decider to be played tonight.
Dhawan missed the T20Is as well.
Here are further details.
BCCI informs the same through an official release
"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mayank Agarwal as replacement for the injured Shikhar Dhawan in India's squad for the upcoming Paytm ODI series against West Indies," a statement read.
Dhawan suffered injury while playing for Delhi
Earlier, according to a report in The Hindu, Dhawan injured his left knee while playing for Delhi in a match against Maharashtra in the first Super League match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The incident occurred when Dhawan attempted a full-stretch dive while batting, and a piece of wood from his pad pierced his knee.
The batsman later received multiple stitches.
Samson had replaced Dhawan in the T20I squad
Sanju Samson was called up to the T20I side as Dhawan's replacement. However, he hasn't got a single game so far. He was also named in the T20Is against Bangladesh last month. The T20I series between India and Windies is at 1-1 at the moment.
Mayank's name was recommended earlier
Earlier, it was reported that Mayank's name did the rounds as Dhawan's replacement. "The selection committee has recommended Mayank's name as Shikhar's replacement after consultation with the team management," a senior BCCI source told PTI.
The management is keen to see Mayank translating his stupendous Test performance into the ODI arena.
This is another step ahead for the Karnataka batsman.
