Djokovic, Federer, Nadal ease into 3rd round at Indian Wells

Distinguished trio, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal, have advanced into the third round of Indian Wells Masters, with straight-set victories.

Djokovic began his title defence by beating Britain's Kyle Edmund 6-4, 7-6 (7/5) and Federer triumphed over Frenchman Stephane Robert 6-2, 6-1.

Nadal too had an easy day at the office with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Argentine Guido Pella.

World No.1 Andy Murray faced an early exit at the Indian Wells, having been shocked by qualifier Vasek Pospisil, in the second round opener.

Pospisil, the Canadian world no. 129 pulled the stunner to beat the Briton 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Murray is yet to win the elusive Indian Wells. His best result here was to finish as a runner-up to Nadal in 2009.

As far as the Indian performances at the tournament go, Sania Mirza alone kept the hopes up by making it to the quarter-finals with her doubles partner Barbora Strycova.

Rohan Bopanna partnering Pablo Cuevas and Leander Paes paired with Juan Martin del Potro have lost their respective doubles matches in the first round.

Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka cruised into the fourth round of BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells after registering a 7-5, 6-3 win against Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.

In other third round match, Gael Monfils won 6-4, 6-2 against John Isner to advance into the next round.

Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych was handed a 6-1, 6(5)-7, 4-6 loss by Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka.

Women's singles third round results

In the women's singles third round, Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki won their respective matches in straight sets. World number two Angelique Kerber had a tough fight against France's Pauline Parmentier, but went on to win the match 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will be up against each other in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Indian Wells.

The last time they had faced each other in the quarter-finals of a tournament was in the round of 32 at Miami in 2004.

In their latest clash at the 2017 Australian Open finals, Federer had defeated Nadal in a five-setter.

Women's singlesKerber sent packing, Venus Williams advances

World number two Angelique Kerber was handed a fourth round defeat by Russia's Elena Vesnina. Kerber lost 3-6, 3-6 in one hour and 24 minutes.

In other fourth round match, Venus Williams defeated Shuai Peng 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 to advance into the quarter-finals.

Karolina Pliskova also advanced to the quarters after her opponent Timea Bacsinszky retired in the first round.

Men's fourth round clashes

In the fourth round of men's singles, Novak Djokovic will meet Nick Kyrgios, whereas Dominic Thiem,will meet Gael Monfils. Fourth ranked Kei Nishikori will face Donald Young and Stan Wawrinka will meet Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka.
