Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton topped in both the practice sessions at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Having clocked a time of 1:23.620, Hamilton was 0.547 seconds ahead of Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari.

Hamilton's and Vettel's team-mates Valterri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen were on third and fourth place respetively.

Red Bull Racing's driver duo grabbed the next two spots.

The Australian Grand Prix

The Australian Grand Prix is the first race of the Formula One (F1) season.

While the Grand Prix was first held in 1928, it became a F1 World Championship race since 1985 and is held at Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit at Albert Park in Melbourne.

Australia's Lex Davison and Germany's Michael Schumacher have each won the tournament four times, most by any driver.

Lewis Hamilton fastest in first practice; Bottas second

Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas secured the first two positions in the first practice session at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Hamilton clocked a time of 1:24.220, with Bottas 0.583 seconds behind him.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were on the third and the fourth spot respectively, followed by Ferrari duo of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.

Force India drivers finish 11th and 13th

After a good show in the first practice session at Melbourne, Sahara Force India drivers slipped two places down to finish 11th and 13th in the second practice. Sergio Perez clocked a time of 1:25.591, while Esteban Ocon's fastest lap time was 1:26.145 minutes.

Australian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton grabs pole position

Britain's Lewis Hamilton secured his 62nd pole position in his Formula 1 career after finishing 0.268 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen will be in the second lane ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Local boy Daniel Ricciardo failed to qualify for the main race after surviving a crash during the third qualifier.

Australia Grand Prix: Vettel wins

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, out-manoeuvred Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and scripted an amazing win in the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne.

It was Ferrari's first win in Melbourne since 2007. It was also Vettel's fourth win for Ferrari, his first victory since 2015 and his 43rd career victory.

Vettel jokingly conceded that "There was a bit of luck that Lewis came out in traffic."
