Ajinkya Rahane and skipper Steve Smith scored half centuries each to help Rising Pune Supergiant register victory against Mumbai Indians in 2017 Indian Premier League.

Chasing 185, Rahane scored 60 runs off 34 balls. He hit six fours and three sixes.

Smith remained unbeaten on 84 runs, hitting the winning six on the second last ball of the match. RPS won by seven wickets.

Pune to host Mumbai in first Maharashtra derby

After a largely forgettable debut last year, Rising Pune Supergiant would be hosts to Mumbai Indians in second match of the 2017 Indian Premier League.

Mumbai is led by Rohit Sharma, who missed a bulk of India's home season because of an injury.

The home team will see a new leader this season in Steve Smith, who will be captaining his first IPL match.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has played 143 matches in Indian Premier League, all as a captain. He led now defunct Chennai Super Kings in 129 matches, and 14 matches for Rising Pune Supergiant. His appearance today was a first as non-captain in IPL.

2017 IPL's costliest player Ben Stokes will be the center of attraction today for Rising Pune Supergiant. Apart from him, eyes will be on the new Pune captain Steve Smith, who will be playing his first T20 match after about 10 months.

For Mumbai Indians, skipper Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell McClenaghan will be the players to look out for.

Hardik Pandya scored 30 runs in the final over to help Mumbai Indians put 184 runs on board losing eight wickets.

After putting to bat first, MI started scoring runs at a faster rate, with opener Jos Buttler scoring 38 from 19 balls.

Nitish Rana hit two sixes and a four in his 34 run innings, while Kieron Pollard hit 17 off 27 balls.
