Is IPL performance not enough to get into national team?
The Indian squad, for the ICC Champions Trophy, was announced earlier this week.
With several good performances by young and senior players in IPL10, it was expected that there will be some surprise picks. However, the national selection committee completely ignored IPL's performance.
Let us have a look at the reasons why these players might have missed the cut in the national team.
IPL tournament no match to international cricket
Five Indian cricketers kept on standby
Two different formats
Playing conditions in T20 and ODI are totally different
The Champions Trophy is a 50-over tournament and totally different from the Indian Premier League.
In a 50-over match, a player has more time to settle down to play his natural game than in a T20 match, which affects the playing style of a cricketer.
A paradigm shift is required in terms of preparation and fitness to play ODIs after playing T20 cricket.

Not so batsmen friendly pitches in England
With differences in the climatic conditions, English pitches are far different from the Indian pitches.
While Indian pitches are favorable to spinners and batsmen, pitches in England tend to favor the pacers.
Also the lush green outfields make it difficult for the ball to travel quickly, requiring batsman to hit hard to score a boundary.
IPL performers have not performed well in international circuit
While there are players who have made it big in the international arena, after being selected based on their IPL performance, most of the players couldn't cope up with the pressure.
Rahul Sharma, Karn Sharma, Manpreet Gony, Abhishek Nayar and Parwinder Awana are few names who were selected in India's limited overs team but failed to make the most of their chances.
Less competition in IPL?
With only four international players allowed in the playing eleven of an IPL team, the domestic players do not get much opportunity to face international players, making IPL's performances even less significant for the the selectors.
