The role of CAC in Kumble's exit

After Anil Kumble resigned as the coach of the Indian cricket team, he made it public that Kohli's reservations about him and his coaching techniques made him leave the job.

While everyone is now blaming Kohli for Kumble's exit, is the Cricket Advisory Committee also at fault?

We take a look at the role of CAC in this Kumble-Kohli saga.

HistoryWhat is the role of CAC?

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is a three member panel comprising of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar. It was set up by late BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya in 2015.

The role of the CAC is to advise the BCCI on various relevant matters in Indian cricket and suggest corrective measures on the issues not covered by the existing committees.

Did the CAC bend rules in favor of Kumble?

FavouritismDid the CAC bend rules in favor of Kumble?

During the selection process of the Head Coach in May 2016, the CAC ignored BCCI's criteria that 'the applicant needs to have international or first-class coaching experience.'

Although Kumble did not have the experience, he was short-listed among the 57 applicants and eventually got the job.

Did this happen only because Kumble was a former team-mate of the committee members Ganguly, Tendulkar and Laxman?

CAC for Kumble, Kohli for Shastri?

While all the three CAC members wanted Kumble to be the coach of India team, it is no secret that Kohli wanted former team director Ravi Shastri. However, a spat between Ganguly and Shastri overshadowed Kohli's insistence. Did this spat impact Shastri's candidature?

June 2017CAC's failure to mend the Kohli-Kumble spat

After reports about the rift between the coach and the captain emerged, the CAC failed to take Virat Kohli into confidence and know what was the real reason of the tiff.

The captain finally had his own way, and did not budge on his stand which led to Kumble quitting his job.

Had CAC interfered, Anil Kumble might still have been India's coach.

Our takeIs Kohli above the CAC?

While Kohli's demand to not let Kumble continue as the coach was indirectly accepted by the CAC, it brings up the question 'Is Kohli above the CAC?'

If yes, then what is the need to have the committee if Kohli will take all the decisions?

If not, then why did the committee of three legendary cricketers fail to resolve the matter?
