A US Navy aircraft having 11 people on board has crashed into the Pacific Ocean, southeast of Okinawa, Japan.
The US Navy has said the aircraft was heading towards the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, currently deployed in the Philippine Sea.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
Eight people have been rescued so far, according to Japan's NHK news. Their condition remains unknown.
"Personnel recovery is underway and their condition will be evaluated," The US Navy said.
The names of those on board the crashed aircraft have been withheld until their next of kin are notified.
The US Navy said the cause of the crash is currently unknown.
It also hasn't disclosed what kind of aircraft had crashed. NHK has reported that it was a C-2 aircraft.
