Canada: Police probing into billionaire couple's suspicious death

Canadian police have commenced an investigation into the mysterious deaths of billionaire and founder of the pharmaceutical giant Apotex Inc., Barry Sherman and his wife Honey.

The couple was recently found dead at their Toronto mansion after the police responded to a medical emergency call.

"The circumstances of their death appear suspicious and we are treating it that way," stated a police official.

Who is Barry Sherman?

Bernard Charles Sherman, 75, founded Apotex, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical firms in 1975. Forbes has estimated the firm's net worth to be about $3.2 billion.

Although he stepped down as chief executive in 2012, he had continued as its executive chairman.

According to its website, Apotex is the world's 7th largest generic drug manufacturer and has operations in more than 45 countries.


The Shermans' death: What do we know so far?

Police found the couple dead at their mansion located in north-east Toronto shortly after receiving a medical emergency call.

Speaking to the press, homicide detectives revealed that there were no signs of forced entry.

The police are reportedly looking into it as a case of suspicious death.

The couple's bodies have been removed and the Sherman mansion has since been put up for sale.

"I am beyond words right now," tweeted Ontario health minister Eric Hoskins. He referred to the Shermans as "wonderful human beings, incredible philanthropists and great leaders in healthcare."

John Tory, Toronto Mayor stated that he was "shocked and heartbroken" to hear of their deaths.

"I hope the police investigation will be able to provide answers for those who are mourning this loss," he added.
