Hundreds of flights cancelled over volcano eruption

Indonesia's busiest international terminal, Bali airport was closed due to ash spewed by a volcano on a nearby island.

Airport authorities in a statement said that 692 flights were cancelled.

The meteorological agency said that tremors were continously recorded due to volcanic activities and there was potential of more eruption.

The airport would remain closed till 5 November and would be reopened for evaluation.

The Rinjani National Park in West Nusa Tenggara was closed to the public by authorities after a volcano erupted in the area.

Mount Barujari, located east of Mount Rinjani had erupted at 10:45 AM spewing material 200 meters into the air.

Rinjani observation post chief Mutaharlin said that that officials had evacuated hundreds of climbers and Hindu worshipers who were present there.

According to Surono, a vulcanologist for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in the Indonesian government, the eruption was of minor nature.

He said that volcano was spewing up material upwards, towards a height of 1,000-1,500 metres above the Barujari crater.

Surono added that it was a mere 'roar' and was yet to get counted as a major eruption.

Gangster Chhota Rajan's deportation from Bali was delayed as the airport was closed due to volcanic eruption.

Sources said that the flights were disrupted but attempts were being made to put Rajan on a flight to India.

Rajan would be taken to Delhi and would be kept in CBI's custody.

The Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali was temporarily shut down on November 3.

Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari's day-long visit to Brunei was delayed due to the cancellation of flights at Bali airport.

Balinese authorities had issued an advisory to delay his departure till November 5.

Officials of the VP's Secretariat said that they would know when the Vice President would fly to Brunei once the review meeting of the concerned authorities in Bali gets over.
