Varun Dhawan was a superstar right after his debut film Student of the Year got released in 2012. Since then he has delivered back-to-back hits like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, ABCD 2, Dilwale and Judwaa 2.
However, his command over the box-office came to a halt with Kalank, his first commercial failure.
Opening up about it, he said, "it deserved not to do well."
Kalank's performance was indeed abysmal, as the period drama even failed to recover its own budget of Rs. 150 crore.
"It affected me. The film wasn't liked by the audience. And it deserved not to do well. It is very clear if the audience likes a film it should do well and they did not like Kalank," Varun said in an interview.
"Sometimes something doesn't work and then overall things go wrong. It is for the first time I went through a failure and it had to affect me. If it did not affect me, it would mean I don't love my films. I love my films to death," Varun said.
For Varun, the film's failure could bring a major shift in his future projects.
Meanwhile, reports surrounding Varun's impending wedding to his long-time girlfriend Natasha Dalal have been doing the rounds for a while now.
However, Varun's father David has clarified that the actor is currently busy with a few projects.
Once he is ready, he will announce the wedding date, David added.
Even Varun told an entertainment portal recently that his wedding is not happening anytime soon.
On the work front, Varun is currently busy shooting for Remo D'Souza's Street Dancer 3D, opposite Shraddha Kapoor, and will soon be wrapping up the movie.
"There is the fourth schedule left now which will also wrap up soon. We are looking at January 24, 2020 to release the film," Remo informed.
He will also be seen in the remake of Govinda's Coolie No.1.
