As all productions across the country remain stalled due to the ongoing nationwide lockdown, TV channels are running out of fresh episodes for their soap operas.
So, they are obviously finding newer ways to keep their audience entertained, more so because they will stay home now, more than ever.
To deal with the situation, ZEE TV has decided to start airing popular web series.
From March 25, audiences were able to catch three web series of Ekta Kapoor's streaming platform ALTBalaji. They include Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai, Baarish, and Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat.
These shows took over all-important 9-11 pm slots on the channel.
While Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat aired between 9 and 10 pm, Baarish and Kehne Ko Humsafar aired at 10 pm and 10:30 pm respectively.
Besides roping in these digital shows, ZEE TV also, for the time being, brought back two of its famous yesteryear shows: Kasamh Se and Brahmarakshas. These shows will be aired during the day slot.
Clearly, ZEE TV is looking to keep its audience engaged when there aren't many fresh episodes to show.
Further, the selected shows also boast of popular faces.
For instance, Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat stars the much-loved small screen duo of Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar.
Meanwhile, Baarish stars Sharman Joshi and Asha Negi, while Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain features Ronit Roy and Mona Singh.
Talking about the development, ZEE TV business head Aparna Bhosle said that the idea is to provide engaging family entertainment, while people stay at their homes.
She added that these shows "will reassure viewers that we can conquer the biggest challenges with the power of love."
"Each of the shows has strong TV faces that the masses are closely attached to," she summed.
Meanwhile, the coronavirus pandemic, which has claimed over 24,000 lives globally, has punctured the entertainment industry around the world. Apart from the TV industry, Bollywood also remains shut and stands to lose up to Rs. 800 crore due to the lockdown, according to reports.
