In a disturbing incident of racism against African nationals, a Nigerian man was brutally thrashed by a mob in New Delhi's Malviya Nagar last month, raising concerns of safety of Africans in India.
The incident came to light when its video surfaced today.
The victim was allegedly accused of theft; locals hit him with sticks before the police could reach the place.
Police said the Nigerian man was in an inebriated condition when the incident took place. Malviya Nagar locals registered a complaint of theft after which police arrested the African man. South Delhi's Malviya Nagar has a considerable population of Africans.
The victim can be heard saying "Please forgive me" while attackers keep hitting him.
Despite the victim's repeated cries for help, the locals can be heard swearing while tying the man's foot to the pole and thrashing him.
Also, people holding a candlelight march for the schoolboy mercilessly attacked four Nigerians who they suspected of having drugged the boy.
Nigeria expressed displeasure over the attacks targeting its nationals in India, especially in the national capital.
