A statue of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru was removed from an intersection in Allahabad as part of a road-widening project, triggering protests by the Congress.
According to authorities, the statue near Anand Bhavan was removed from Balsan Chauraha in Allahabad ahead of Kumbh Mela which will be held in January 2019.
The decision to remove the statue was taken by the Allahabad Development Authority.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) member Kishor Varshney questioned the move, saying why was a statue of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay, which is on the same road, remains untouched.
The Allahabad Development Authority, however, issued a clarification, saying the designing of the road is being done by a private company and the statue was placed in a park on the same road.
