In a bizarre incident, a student of Class V was recently transferred from his school in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district for being "characterless."
According to reports, the student (10) had complained against a teacher for thrashing him, following which, he was handed a transfer certificate (TC).
Under the reason for the transfer, the TC stated that the student is "characterless".
Here are more details.
According to Jagran, on July 31, the student fell on the ground while playing and a teacher, identified as Abhishek Kumar Verma, struck him with a stick.
The student informed his parents and the next day, his mother, Poonam Singh visited the school to speak to the teacher.
The teacher, however, dismissed the allegations of violence and claimed he had only scolded the boy.
The matter became more heated, as the parents then threatened to withdraw their child from the school, Deccan Herald reported.
To the parents' surprise, instead of admitting their mistake, the school's principal, Rinki Singh immediately drafted a transfer certificate for the student.
"The principal became very angry at our decision to withdraw Anurag," the student's father, Dharmendra Singh, told the publication.
Furious, the student's parents approached the Colonelganj police station, which has jurisdiction over the area.
However, the parents alleged that the police dismissed them and refused to lodge a complaint against the school.
The District Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) told Jagran that they have received complaints from both sides.
An investigation, headed by the District Basic Education Officer (BEO), is currently underway.
