While there have been debates as to who is the best among them, there seems to be a deadlock between the two.
Nonetheless, despite winning five Ballon d'Ors, Ronaldo has recently made a shocking admission regarding it.
Here's what he said.
"Messi's in the history of football - but I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him," said Ronaldo, asides admitting that he thinks he deserves it.
Surprisingly, Ronaldo has come up with an appalling declaration for himself, as he has personally rated himself above Messi and considers himself better than him.
He also said that he does not bother about critics.
"I'm sure I'm in the history of football for what I have done and what I'm continuing to do, but one of the best players in history," declared Ronaldo.
"For me, the number one in history, but for some fans, if the number one is another one and I'm second, it doesn't matter. I know I'm in the history of football as one of the greatest ever," added Ronaldo.
In another stunning revelation, Ronaldo has confessed that while he has great respect for Messi as a player and rival, their relationship is strictly professional and they are not friends.
"I have a good relationship with him and I know that he has pushed me to be a better player and I have pushed him to be a better player as well," confessed Ronnie.
It might seem that Ronaldo is in self-praising mode. However, he does have a valid point.
Both the men have done considerably well in club football.
However, taking their international performance into consideration, there is a notable difference.
Messi's only international success has been the 2008 Olympic gold, while Ronaldo has led Portugal to 2016 Euro title, along with the 2018-19 Nations League title.
