5 Hindi films to watch for quintessential Kolkata vibes

'Kahaani'

A mystery thriller with Vidya Balan's character based on the theme of Ma Durga, the Sujoy Ghosh film explores a range of places in Kolkata, from unseen shabby alleys to renowned restaurants.

'Piku'

In Shoojit Sircar's film—dealing with an eccentric father-daughter duo—Bachchan's "Bangaliana" steals the show. Big B cycling through Kolkata with Anupam Roy's soulful music is a visual treat.

'Barfi!'

This love triangle story is considered an Anurag Basu classic, as Indians aren't usually exposed to romantic slapstick comedy films. The 'phuchka' scene is one of the most poetic scenes.

'Parineeta'

Pradeep Sarkar's adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel might be condemned by woke millennials, but the old-world charm would definitely make you fall in love with Kolkata.

'Meri Pyaari Bindu'

One of the underrated films of Ayushmann Khurrana, this romantic drama set in Kolkata works on nostalgia. The subplot on the Mohun Bagan-East Bengal derby adds extra charm.
