Looking at the legacy of Tina Turner

Swiss singer, author, dancer, songwriter, and actor Tina Turner passed away on Wednesday in Zurich after a prolonged illness. She was 83 and was known as the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll."


Cause of death

Turner was ill for a long time and battled intestinal cancer in 2016, followed by a kidney transplant in 2017. Her family said she 'died peacefully.'


Career snapshot

She was one of the first Black female artists to have a worldwide fanbase. She also performed in a band with her husband between 1960 and 1976, delivering several hits.


Iconic fame

Turner's 1980s career phase brought iconic songs and a Guinness World Record for the largest paying audience for a solo performer. About 1,88,000 people attended her show in 1988.



Celebrities like Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, and Urmila Matondkar, among others, took to social media to pay their respects to the late singer.
