Job cuts

Microsoft plans to lay off 276 employees in Washington as part of a restructuring exercise, following the elimination of 10,000 roles in January.

Impacted workers

The impacted workers are in customer service, support, and sales roles in Washington. Out of 276, 66 are virtual employees. 

Reason

Microsoft attributed the layoffs to necessary "organizational and workforce adjustments." The company said it is a "regular part" of managing business. 

Previous cut

Microsoft laid off employees same time last year as well. The company fired about 1% of its workforce as part of a realignment of business groups and roles. 

Mass layoff

The new round of layoffs follows mass terminations in January this year. The company axed around 5% of its workforce due to economic uncertainties.
