Ahmedabad plane crash: Valuables recovered

India

Air India flight AI171 crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick on June 12, killing 241 of the 242 people onboard and 29 on the ground.
The plane hit a hostel near B.J. Medical College. Only one person—a British national of Indian origin—survived and is currently hospitalized.

What happened to the recovered belongings?

Rescue teams found gold, cash, passports, electronics, and religious items among the wreckage—all handed over to officials.
Because many victims' remains were badly burned, DNA testing is being used for identification.
So far, DNA from 251 victims has been matched and most remains have been returned to families with care.

Airline's statement

Air India says it's fully cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
Indian officials are leading the probe.
