Air India crew caught smuggling gold

An Air India crew member was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for allegedly trying to smuggle gold bars worth ₹1.41 crore from New York to Mumbai on flight AI-116. While nothing turned up in the first search, DRI officers eventually found the hidden gold after some persistent questioning.

Others involved in the operation are still being searched for

Following the confession, DRI also arrested the main mastermind behind the operation. Both are now in custody under customs law, and officials are still looking for others involved. This case highlights how airline crew members are increasingly being pulled into gold smuggling, making things tougher for customs teams everywhere.
