Air India Express pilot suspended after airport altercation
An off-duty Air India Express pilot, Captain Virender Sejwal, has been suspended after allegedly getting into a physical fight with passenger Ankit Dewan at Delhi Airport on December 20.
According to Dewan, the clash started when Sejwal cut in the security queue, leading to a heated argument and then a scuffle.
Dewan, who was with his wife and two kids—including a baby in a stroller—was left bloodied.
Sejwal's side claims Dewan used casteist slurs and threats during the exchange.
What's happening now?
Air India Express quickly suspended Sejwal and announced it would set up an external investigation panel, while the aviation ministry also stepped in.
Dewan filed a police complaint on December 23; Delhi Police say they're reviewing the case with senior officials.
Both men say they were hurt during the incident. The whole thing has sparked fresh worries about safety and behavior at airports.
