All India Muslim Personal Law Board challenges Gujarat UCC bill
India
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is challenging Gujarat's new Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in court, saying it goes against constitutional rights and religious freedom.
Spokesperson SQR Ilyas pointed out that the UCC is a Directive Principle under Article 44, not something that can override fundamental rights.
AIMPLB seeks UCC suspension Gujarat Uttarakhand
AIMPLB wants the UCC suspended in both Gujarat and Uttarakhand, raising concerns about the bill's timing just before elections and questioning its real motives.
The board also criticized the Gujarat government for not being open about public feedback on the bill and called out the uniform label as misleading since it doesn't actually apply equally across the state.
