Allahabad HC orders release of man jailed over spousal maintenance
The Allahabad High Court has ordered the release of Tahir (also known as Babloo), who had spent nearly four months in jail for not paying spousal maintenance.
He was arrested in December 2025 after a Jhansi family court sentenced him, but on April 2, Justice Praveen Kumar Giri ruled that he should be freed right away: no bail bond needed.
Tahir's lawyers cite 1 month limit
Tahir's lawyers argued that the law only allows up to one month in jail for missing alimony payments, and that money should be recovered by attaching property instead of keeping someone locked up.
The judge agreed with this view and asked Tahir's wife to respond.
The next hearing is set for May 18, so this case isn't over yet, but it does highlight how courts interpret maintenance laws and what's fair when it comes to jail time.
