Aravalli hills not under threat, says Centre
Good news for nature lovers: the government says the Aravalli hills aren't facing any immediate danger.
Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav confirmed that no new mining licenses will be given out until a sustainability study is done.
This follows concerns after the Supreme Court's recent order redefining the area.
What's being done for conservation and Delhi's air?
Yadav emphasized steps like planting more trees and noted that, under the new definition, 90% of the Aravallis will be protected as natural heritage.
Right now, mining covers about 278 sq km, and no new leases are allowed per court orders.
Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality took a hit with an AQI of 366 on December 22—so the government is rolling out measures like traffic control, cleaner fuel for industries, and better road cleaning to help clear the air.
