Arvind Panagariya: News

Author, professor, economist...there are more than a few ways to describe Arvind Panagariya. Born September 30, 1952, in Jaipur, he was the youngest of three siblings. His journey from a village on the outskirts of Jaipur to global organizations and education institutions is one of persistence and determination. Although his father wanted him to be an IAS officer, it was economics that attracted Pangariya. After completing his post-graduation in economics from Rajasthan University, he received his Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University. In his professional life, he has served in various positions such as that of an economist, a professor, etc. As a professor, he plied his trade in famous institutions such as the University of Maryland, Center for International Economics, and Columbia University. In his capacity as an economist, he worked with the IMF, World Bank, etc. He was also the Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank. He has authored a number of books as well, including the popular ‘India: The Emerging Giant.’ In 2015, he was appointed as the first Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog.
