Bengali migrants in Bengaluru allege police detentions and harassment

Bengali migrants living in Bengaluru are speaking out about being unfairly detained and harassed by police, who they say mistake them for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Murshida, a resident since 2008, shared that her husband was repeatedly detained and allegedly beaten up by the police before leaving the city with their daughter.
Many like her feel targeted despite living in Bengaluru for years.

Several migrants said they were detained even though they had official documents proving their Indian citizenship.
Ameen, who was born in Bengaluru, said he was detained as a Bangladeshi migrant and beaten up.
The police commissioner denied any targeting of Bengali migrants, but fear and anxiety remain high among the community.
