Bengaluru might soon have an entertainment tax--details here
India
If you love catching a movie or going to events in Bengaluru, heads up: a new entertainment tax might be on the way.
The Fifth State Finance Commission has proposed this under the Greater Bengaluru Authority, covering everything from concerts to TV events.
It's all part of the city's new governance plan for 2024, which lets local corporations introduce such charges.
Tax to generate ₹300 crore annually
The tax is expected to bring in about ₹300 crore each year, helping tackle Bengaluru's ongoing revenue gap even after recent funding boosts.
With the city government splitting into five smaller corporations to improve transparency and services, officials say this move is about keeping things running smoothly, even if it means paying a little extra for your next outing.
