BJP MLA Sarbari Mukherjee denies sparking Jadavpur University violence
BJP MLA Sarbari Mukherjee has pushed back against claims that she sparked the recent violence at Jadavpur University.
The clash, which happened on August 20, saw ABVP members and left-leaning student groups like SFI and RSF face off, leaving several students injured.
Mukherjee says, "How can I enter the campus? I was not on the spot. I only accompanied some BJP youths in the area during a peaceful assembly in front of the Jadavpur police station area on Wednesday night. Then I left the spot. The BJP has never been associated with ABVP, and I did not attend any of their programs."
She added, "CCTV footage will show I was not involved and was not present there. Nor did I take part in the ABVP rally or any other rally the next day."
Samik Bhattacharya: BJP independent of ABVP
West Bengal BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya clarified that the party is not formally linked to the ABVP, saying it is an "independent nationalist student organization."
Meanwhile, Mukherjee accused left-aligned groups of instigating ABVP supporters after a member of the RSS' student wing was injured.
She also mentioned she only attended a peaceful gathering near Jadavpur police station that night, not on campus.
