BJP youth leader arrested for viral fake rape-murder post

Shaurya Mishra, also known as Hariom Mishra, a 25-year-old vice president of the BJYM in the Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by Gurugram Cyber Crime Police for sharing a fake story online about a Muslim man raping and murdering a Hindu girl in Gurugram.
His December 9 post, which included obscene images and communal language, quickly went viral.
What happened next
Gurugram police soon clarified the story was "completely false" and warned against spreading such rumors.
After a complaint on December 11, police tracked down Mishra in his hometown and arrested him on December 15.
He's now in judicial custody, facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act for spreading fake news and promoting enmity.
