Caste enumeration confirmed for Census 2027: MHA

The Union Home Ministry has officially said that the 2027 Census will include caste details.
This comes after some buzz when a recent government notification skipped mentioning caste, leading to questions about whether plans had changed.
The Ministry reassured everyone that earlier announcements already promised caste data would be collected.

Congress wanted to know if policy had changed

Congress wasn't happy with the missing mention and expressed dissatisfaction with the notification.
Party leader Jairam Ramesh wondered if this was another policy shift and suggested following Telangana's example—collecting in-depth socio-economic and caste info for a clearer picture of India's population.
