Daytime lows in Telangana touch 39 degrees Celsius
Telangana is heating up way ahead of schedule this year. Hyderabad is already seeing daytime highs around 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, and other districts are even hotter at 38 to 39 degrees Celsius, about two to three degrees Celsius above the usual for March.
Nights aren't offering much relief either, with minimum temperatures also higher than normal.
YV Rama Rao attributed the early heat to higher local and regional temperatures.
Separately, INCOIS scientists (P.A. Francis) discussed the evolving ENSO situation and the possibility of El Nino later in the year.
El Nino could worsen heat, impact monsoon
Some light rain and clouds might cool things down briefly around March 15-16, but don't pack away your summer gear just yet. Hotter days are likely to return soon after.
If El Nino sticks around, we could see more intense heat and possibly weaker monsoon rains later in the year, which isn't great news for farmers or anyone hoping for cooler weather.
