Delhi court acquits 9 in 2020 Northeast Delhi riots case
India
A Delhi court has acquitted nine people, including Shah Alam, brother of former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain, in a major 2020 Northeast Delhi riots case.
The group had faced serious charges like rioting and arson, but the judge said the evidence just didn't add up.
Judge Parveen Singh flags contradictory evidence
Judge Parveen Singh pointed out that witness statements were all over the place: some even gave different locations for the same incident.
He also found police testimony didn't match what other witnesses said, especially about an arson attack at Chand Bagh.
With so many contradictions, the judge felt it wasn't safe to convict anyone on this shaky evidence.
