Delhi hits polluters with ₹55L in fines this December

India

Delhi's air is getting worse, so the city's civic body (MCD) cracked down hard this month—handing out ₹55 lakh in fines for breaking pollution rules.
The main issues? Burning waste and dumping construction debris, both big contributors to that infamous smog.

What's actually happening?

MCD teams have been all over the city, inspecting 1,792 construction sites and stopping most construction except for essential projects.
Just one week saw 771 challans (tickets) worth about ₹34 lakh.
In November, it was even higher—over 900 challans and 34 illegal jeans dyeing units were sealed.

Why should you care?

This isn't just about builders or companies; these actions affect everyone living in Delhi.
With over 7,000 tickets given out for dumping and burning violations in just 20 days, it shows how serious things are—and how much work is going into fighting pollution that impacts your daily life.
