Delhi's outstation car ban now only for extreme pollution days
Delhi just tweaked its rules on outstation cars—now, only non-BS-VI vehicles from outside the city are banned when pollution hits the worst level (GRAP Stage 4).
Earlier, this ban kicked in even during slightly less severe air alerts.
The change came after days of really bad air and is meant to keep border traffic chaos in check while still fighting pollution.
Why it matters
This update means fewer people will get stuck at Delhi's borders unless air quality is truly terrible.
It's a move to balance daily life with the need for emergency action against pollution spikes.
For now, only CNG, electric, and essential service vehicles get a free pass.
How it's being enforced
Delhi has set up 126 checkpoints with over 500 police officers and tech like ANPR cameras to spot banned cars.
In just a few days of checks last week, hundreds of fines were handed out—and if you drive an older petrol or diesel car into Delhi during Stage 4, you'll want to think twice.
