ECI orders NIA probe, urges free polls in West Bengal

After seven judicial officers were held hostage in Malda over alleged voter list changes, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has told West Bengal officials to make sure the upcoming elections are free and fair.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has handed the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to get to the bottom of what happened.

The Supreme Court called out state authorities for not preventing the crisis and asked top officials for answers.
The Supreme Court has now ordered extra security, including central forces, especially for those working on voter lists.
The Supreme Court has also directed protection for judicial officers.
