Faizabad Bar seeks FIR over alleged embezzlement at Ram temple
The Faizabad Bar Association is calling for a first information report, or FIR, against former Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai, former trustee Anil Mishra, and temple official Gopal Rao after allegations of embezzling temple donations.
Lawyers say authorities haven't acted on their complaint and feel the accused are being protected.
The controversy has sparked frustration among both lawyers and devotees.
Bar refuses representation despite SIT clearing
A group from the association formally asked the senior superintendent of police to take action.
Even though a Special Investigation Team report cleared Rai and Mishra, the bar isn't satisfied.
They've decided not to represent anyone arrested in this case and set a hefty ₹5 lakh penalty for any member who breaks this rule.
As secretary, Shailendra Jaiswal put it, "The sentiments of all of us have been hurt by the theft of temple offerings. The lawyers of Faizabad have agreed not to plead on behalf of the arrested accused."
