Ghaziabad fire: Daughter dies, parents were already dead
A tragic fire in a Khoda, Ghaziabad apartment building has now claimed three lives.
Neetu, 26, died from burn injuries on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Delhi's GTB Hospital; her parents had already passed away the night of the March 3 blaze due to smoke inhalation.
Fire broke out on ground, 1st floors
The fire broke out late at night on March 3, and may have started in an electrical panel, possibly the lift's electrical panel.
About 150 people were trapped inside as thick smoke engulfed the five-storey building, while the fire was largely reported in the ground- and first-floor staircase area.
Firefighters rushed in with ladders and 10 engines from nearby stations, rescuing residents by around 3am
About two dozen people were injured, but most have recovered.
Building didn't have fire safety clearances
The building was constructed in 2019 but didn't have basic fire safety approvals or multiple exits, just a single staircase for everyone.
Out of roughly 45,000 households in the area, only a handful of buildings actually have proper fire clearance.
Authorities are now investigating how these lapses were allowed.
Police to file negligence case
Police plan to file a negligence case under a section for causing death by negligence.
The hope is that this leads to stricter enforcement so tragedies like this don't repeat themselves.
