Gujarat to buy farmers' kharif crops at MSP: Details here

India

Starting November 9, the Gujarat government will buy key Kharif crops directly from farmers at set minimum prices.
This massive ₹15,000 crore move comes as farmers in over 16,000 villages have been hit by unseasonal rains.

What will be procured?

Groundnut, moong, urad, and soybean are on the list.
MSPs are up this year: groundnut at ₹7,263/quintal, moong at ₹8,768, urad at ₹7,800, and soybean at ₹5,328.
Over 300 centers will open so farmers can easily sell their produce—groundnut sellers can bring up to 120 maund each.

Payments will be made directly into farmers' bank accounts

The central government has greenlit big quantities for procurement—think over a lakh tons of soybean and over 12 lakh tons of groundnut.
Payments will be made straight into farmers' bank accounts using digital tools like biometric checks and POS machines to keep things smooth and transparent.

₹947 crore aid package for farmers

This isn't the first step: back in October, Gujarat announced a ₹947 crore aid package for farmers affected by heavy rains earlier in the season.
Buying crops at higher MSP now is another way the state is trying to help its farming community bounce back.
