India backs US-led FORGE initiative to secure critical mineral supplies
India conveyed its support for FORGE, a US-led global group focused on securing supplies of key minerals like lithium and rare earths.
At a Washington DC summit with over 50 countries, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar highlighted India's efforts to build safer supply chains and promote responsible trade through national missions and new "Rare Earth Corridors."
Why do we need FORGE?
These minerals power everything from electric vehicles and smartphones to defense tech—stuff that shapes our daily lives.
Right now, China dominates the mining and processing of these resources, which makes prices unstable and supply risky for everyone else.
FORGE wants to change that by building stronger international partnerships (think "OPEC but for minerals") so tech stays affordable and innovation isn't held back by shortages or trade drama.
