India boosts fuel reserves amid West Asia tensions
With tensions heating up in West Asia and the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil and gas, India is taking no chances.
The government is boosting its emergency fuel reserves, looking for new suppliers, and making sure essential gas supplies stay steady.
All these moves are about keeping the lights on at home, even if global conflicts threaten to mess with the flow.
Why is India boosting its reserves?
India gets about 90% of its crude oil and one-half of its LNG from other countries, so any disruption hits hard.
Strategic reserve capacity equals about nine to 10 days of demand, though current stocks (around 80% full) cover roughly seven to eight days.
Officials are also working on building up gas reserves to make sure homes and businesses aren't left in the dark if overseas supplies slow down.
