India increases wait time between gas cylinder bookings amid crisis
Worried about possible LPG shortages due to the Iran-Israel conflict, the Indian government has bumped up the minimum wait between domestic gas cylinder bookings from 21 to 25 days.
People have started booking refills much more often, sometimes every two weeks instead of every couple of months.
Restaurants worried about unpredictable deliveries
To keep kitchens running and prevent hoarding, oil refineries are ramping up LPG production and giving households first dibs over businesses.
India's also lining up supplies from places like the US Canada, Algeria, Australia, and Norway in case things get tricky near the Strait of Hormuz.
Still, restaurant owners are anxious: NRAI told Minister Hardeep Puri that unpredictable deliveries could force them to close shop.
How much do cylinders cost?
A standard LPG cylinder in Delhi just got pricier by ₹60 (now ₹913).
Petrol and diesel prices are steady for now since global crude is around $100 a barrel (big changes only happen if it shoots past $130).
Most homes use about seven to eight cylinders a year, usually needing a refill every six weeks.
